A user/admin asks if COMMON is worth it

The session list for Reno will be posted soon. We are wrapping up the session selections and will soon be asking for speaker confirmations. Check the web site next week. The detailed schedule will be posted by the end of February.

I've been attending COMMON regularly since 1992, even though my company is in the business of selling training that might be considered competitive. It's the one place (other than this list) where I can learn the difference between marketing hype and user reality. Also, I've not found a better source for system administration information.

I'm also one of those people who volunteered reluctantly, but I am ever so grateful that I did. (Before, I couldn't spell strategic education team manager and now I are one!) Given any iquestion, I now know who to call in the IBM or user community.

I should also point out that volunteering can help reduce the cost, since most volunteer positions receive credit toward registration. The more work you do, the cheaper it becomes. See the volunteer job postings at www.common.org.
