We certainly have dns servers listing in the opt 12 domain information.
I only meant we have not turned on the i 's dns server.
This will be a bit of a mess. This network is in extreme transition, which appears
to be a common environment. Thru years of aquisitions, many win servers, dns
etc being consolidated.

Aren't there three addresses in there also?
Aren't they all currently serving DNS?
You have a large network, you most likely have more than one.
I suggest recording more than one here. I'd use all three. And, I'd make
it a quarterly or annual thing to review the list. Why? Well, changing
the IP addresses of our DNS' have also been done. He always phases that
in and doesn't do them all at once. Having more than one allows the phase
in. However, if you don't review them periodically, and he's changed all
three over a period of time, the experience won't put you in your happy
place.
You can often compare option 12 with Windows, Start, Settings, Network
Connections, Local Area Network, General, Properties, Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP), Properties, Use the following DNS server addresses. Although I
just noticed that we now use "Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically" in
Windows. Does i have this capability?

I have a request to switch from fixed ip addresses in *lan printer
definitions to dns names. DNS is handled within the network, but not the
iSeries DNS. 50 locations around the world and iSeries in a bunker site
(and dns servers in another site).
Currently iSeries Access clients use dns name for system.
All the printers have unique names.
Why not..
Any known problems?
