Thanks. I read the description in the Info Center after Rob posted it, but just missed the *JOBQ option. (The Evelyn Wood course, it seems, is less useful for web pages.)
And I, also, missed the HLDJOB and CHGJOB commands, even though I have used both before today.

QUSLJOB with selection criterion of *JOBQ -- which is located in the
InfoCentre immediately above the one you used.

Just use the HLDJOB command via QCMDEXC or QCAPCMD or system().
