Hi,

you'd better use TRANSLATE (= rpg XLATE), it's easier, and just one run
makes it all

update foxwell/a1
set srcdta= translate(srcdta, '_', 'à')
where SRCDTA LIKE '%+_ %' escape '+' or SRCDTA LIKE '%+_;%' escape '+'

Thanks, all, I think I'm getting there :

with mytable as (
SELECT locate('_ ', srcdta) as start, srcdta FROM foxwell/a1 WHERE
SRCDTA LIKE '%+_ %' escape '+' or SRCDTA LIKE '%+_;%' escape '+'
)

select substr(srcdta, 1, start-1) concat '@' concat
substr(srcdta, start+1) from mytable

I want to put the @ back in the place of the '_ ' or '_;'. I will run the statement more than once in case there are several instances on the same line.
But how do I update?
This won't work :
with mytable as (
SELECT locate('_ ', srcdta) as start, srcdta FROM foxwell/a1 WHERE
SRCDTA LIKE '%+_ %' escape '+' or SRCDTA LIKE '%+_;%' escape '+'
)
update foxwell/a1
set srcdta= substr(srcdta, 1, start-1) concat 'à' concat
substr(srcdta, start+1) from mytable

Hello,

you have to use escape

with: where column like "%+_%" escape '+'
you find anything containing '_'

I changed all my "@" to "_" in a source file.

How d'you select character strings containing "_" ?

Is "_" some kind of wild card?

Thanks
