Hi Chris

I'd allow an hour or so for the migrate, but it will probably take less than
that - depends on the controller more than anything else in my experience.

You can *ENDALC on the load source drive - from what I understand you'll end
up with just the LIC on there. I had an IBM engineer tell me this was OK.

As to the Load source migration, will you physically relocate the drive
after it is migrated ? If not, is the position of the disk you are migrating
to a valid Load Source position ? I've had the Load Source position bite me
at least once on a 520 migration.

Hope this helps. It always pays to have a good book handy when working with
disks.

Evan Harris

Subject: Load Source Migration

Good morning everyone. This weekend I am going to attempt to migrate
our load source from an old 17GB drive to a larger 36GB drive. I have
an older 520, first generation of them with a 7453 processor. (I think
it is about 2200 CPW rated.) I have 16GB of ram. Both drives are
located on the same controller. (Wish I had open space in another
cabinet.) Total of 31 drives in this system across 3 cabinets and 3
controllers.

The total project is to remove all 8 drives in the raid set, one of
which is the load source. I have already added 4 drives RAID-5 and only
added 3 to the ASP so I have the 4th for the migration. Tonight I will
*ENDALC the 8 drives and perform a *MOVDATA.

Questions:
1. Can I *ENDALC the load source? If yes, how much data will be left on
the disk?
2. Any idea on how long it will take to migrate the load source?
3. Does anyone have any experience with this and any good advice?
