Adam - it depends a lot on who should control the process. Is the change
made on the iSeries, using an RPG program? Then that program should, in
my opinion, make the update in real-time, if possible.
Now your PC app can easily read an iSeries data file using ODBC - if
that is what it is set up to do, you don't have to do anything to get
the updated stuff. Another poster mentioned that they do this.
If your PC app does NOT do ODBC, then you need to update whatever it
uses. Where is the data kept that the app is reading? Is it a text file?
Is it an Excel workbook? Is it SQL Server table? Is it an Access table?

I know we have products that could probably do what you want - one is
called RPG2SQL and will let you read/write to any SQL based database
system or to an Excel workbook or even to text files using Microsoft's
desktop text ODBC driver (not fun but workable). Call me or sales at
888.rjs.soft or email me privately.

Or if a text file, you can put it in the local IFS and work with it
using Scott's API. Or if an Excel workbook, use Java and the POI
classes. Or lots of other alternatives.
So pay us and save time or get something else and take more time. ;-)

Vern

yes but I thought it was the consensus not to use RPG. Are you saying it is going to work fine updating via RPG using Scott Klement's program?

I have PC's in the warehouse that gets orders files from the i.
Is this the same thing that you were asking about recently? Have you
considered Joe's suggestion* of a mapped drive instead of FTP? You
would still need to update a stream file each time a price is changed,
but at least you'll only need one copy of the file instead of one on i
and one on Windows.
