Your conversion may have to go thru an intermediate machine that is also IBM
unsupported. You may need dual licenses for BPCS on the production machine
and the DR machine. You might want to ask about that on BPCS-L.

We also are on a model 170 with BPCS 405 CD
Our disk space now 80% consumed
Some time ago we got a major increase in speed by going to a faster CPU, and
more memory for cache.

We got LOCKSMITH from UPI from Small Blue, which is a fantastic product that
by archiving old data & rebuilding the BPCS files in many ways to recover
disk space, we do not have to get the Infor-SSA drop dead bank account route
to upgrade.

I think our slow downs are 50% due to data not yet archived & data not yet
approved for getting rid of & 50% due to software tools (not) made available
to me such that we end up running the company on query/400.

However, my company is perpetually throwing new tasks at me, so I don't get
to fully utilize the wonderful solution.

We are using SERVIT for maintenance because they do the job (that we need)
faster & cheaper than IBM.

Greetings,

Currently we are on a model 170, V5R3, 100GB disk (55% used), BPCS
v. 405CD, and Lansa for the (SYSTEM i) WEB - v.11.5; everything just
running in one partition - Hardware maint., but NO software subscription..

We are starting to see slowdowns, and are beginning to investigate
an upgrade to a new System i Model - which should have 4-8 times the
processing power of our model 170.

Would V5R3 be able to run on the new model? Would it be beneficial
to set up LPARs? Do you have to get a software subscription for a
certain period?

We would like to also look into the possibility of using the 170 as
a Disaster Recovery/Hot Site option, but I know that V5R3 is as high
as you can go on the model 170, and I'm wondering what kind of
"backward" compatibility issues there may be between the newly
selected model and the 170, and their respective O/S levels?

Any associated "ball park" costs would be very helpful to guide us
going forward.

Thanks,
Don C.
