We have a /TMP, but it is filled with files from ill-written programs that
do not clean up after themselves. However, none of them start with Q (ie,
IBM special objects).

I treat the objects in any TMP or TEMP on any system (Windows, etc) the
same. The should be used for transitory purposed only. Persistent data
should be stored elsewhere. There should only be files left over from
programs that do not complete correctly and did not run their clean-up
routine.

Just select the files and delete them. It won't let you delete anything
that is open/locked. In order to not temp fate with my favorite key
(DELETE), I usually leave recent files (last few days or since last
monthly IPL) alone.

You can enable auditing on your system and then review the CO (Create
Object) records to find out who/what is making them, as a start.

I noticed a directory on my IFS Root called /TMP. This directory is
filled
with Q* files that go all the way back to 2001...and all the way up to 1
week ago. Is this a typical AS400 folder? If so, are there rules for
deleting the files?

If this is not a typical file, is there a way for me to determine what is
using it?

Thanks. RH
