Only options are to build an index but that may slow down your batch
RPG36 program if it is using an Input Primary with blocking. There are
two ways to use #GSORT, sort the whole file of just create an Record
Address Sort. (Which is just an index that does not get updated.)

You can also use the CL FMTDTA if you just want to move away from OCL

Any other types of processing will be real pigs. But it depends on the
records length and number of records. Good luck.

Subject: Sorting a program described file

This may be a brain flat.

I have a Sys/36 environment program described file (QS36F) with no
index. I want to order the file for processing by field 1, field 3, and
field 2 (not contiguous, not in order). Until now it has been done with
a #gsort in OCL, and works fine.

I would like to not use OCL. Any ideas?
