What I quoted is not theory - it is from the DRDA specification.
I did not suggest that DDM files work with SQL or you can use DRDA from
F specs. DDM is an architecture, documented in 1 of 3 manuals that are
the spec for DRDA. That is what I meant by DRDA is built on DDM. These
are architectures that are cross-platform - DB2 V9 (the
Linux/Unix/Windows version) also discusses both topics.
Dan K and I are interpreting things a little differently, he says DDM is
built on DRDA - heh. The spec looks like one could make that conclusion
in some places. I've always heard (or at least remembered) that DRDA is
built on DDM.
Now at V5R3 and on, it is possible to specify *RDB for the remote
address - this is the first time this showed up. Dan sees that as
supporting his contention that DDM uses DRDA, I think it is just another
way to find where the target system is. I just verified that DDM files
using that setting do not work in SQL.
We usually agree violently!!

That's interesting theory. But in practice what do you think? Can YOU
use CRTDDMF files with SQL? Can you use DRDA from F specs in RPG or by
whatever COBOL uses?
