Off the top of my head, I don't know if you can run a command/program
located on a remote box locally. I suspect the answer is determined by what
environment and what files system you are using. For example, you probably
can use NFS to locally execute a PASE program stored on another machine.

Running a native i program? Don't know, but I suspect not. If it does
work, I'd expect have to be done from qshell as qshell supports the IFS
naming needed.

My guess would be that the standard in the System i world is to simply have
the tool on each box.

I was curious, so I gave it a try.

I downloaded an example RPGLE program designed to be run from QShell from
here:
http://systeminetwork.com/article/write-your-own-qshell-utilities

(As usual, thanks to Scott Klement :)

Created a QFileSvr.400 link from one system to another

And tried to run the program:
/QFileSvr.400/C00092A3/qsys.lib/ctsc_w.lib/testqsh.pgm

Got this back:
qsh: 001-0018 Error found running command
/QFileSvr.400/C00092A3/qsys.lib/ctsc_w.lib/testqsh.pgm. The value specified
for the argument is not
correct.

Interesting enough, when I tried the same from another system, one that I
used a different user ID to sign on to, I got this message:
qsh: 001-0018 Error found running command
/QFileSvr.400/C00092A3/qsys.lib/ctsc_w.lib/testqsh.pgm. Permission denied.

So, it seems that it almost works...
