Getting an old system in an unknown state with a possibly unknown version
operating via Ops or Lan console could be something of an interesting
challenge - would definitely appeal to those with masochistic tendencies !
:)

I think twinax is a good investment in this case ...

Al's point about documentation is a good one - although newer
documentation is not that different - this system has not changed in the
important areas over the years - new features, of course.

If you end up getting one, contact me off-line - I have links to older
documentation, actually a long way back - that is still out there on
IBM's sites.

And as to the console, you don't need Twin-ax - Operations Console, a
part of what is called Client Access (and other names), will work just
fine on 150s, 170s, and 270s. There might be a couple setup issues, and
you do need the right cable - check with whomever you get unit from. If
it has twinax - hey, that stuff never dies. So it is really the most
reliable way to get on the system when other things are broken.
