There are good reasons for both choices.
More important, however, is having a monitoring solution to tell you
when the system is down when you aren't around. If you had found out
that the systems were down Saturday morning, you could have started
them Saturday or Sunday, the jobs would have run their course, and
there would have been no user downtime.
