I realize this sounds terrible, but Dr. Frank has "been" with IBM for well over 30 years
and is "about" 68 years old.

Not many folks in IBM have a much longer track record
and I think this might be a "highly suggested/recommended" retirement, rather than a "let go".

A year in advance is a pretty good warning by anybody's standards and certainly
not offered to many folks.

I don't know anything that supports my idea, but common sense tells me that IBM
is doing to Frank, what I have seen done to many "very long term" employees.

The future of the machine is in another place, with another group.

I doubt the future of the I box is left up to one individual.

PS - Dr. Frank is speaking at the Toronto User Group meeting on Wednesday November 19th. If you're in the Toronto area you may want to catch one of his last appearances as an IBM'er. See http://www.tug.ca/
