I am adding some memory to a 520 (adding 8GB) and after Shannon's post last week, I think the actual physical replacement of the existing 2GB will be the easy part. What I want to do is add 6GB to the production LPAR and 2GB to the Linux partition.

I know how to change the allocations using the HMC by going into the partition profile but when do I do this? After I install the DIMM? After the system IPL's? Seems to me that the HMC won't see the additional 8GB until I power the 520 on and IPL. So do I IPL and then change the partition profile?

Just need a pointer or two. Or, if you can point me in the right direction in a manual somewhere I'd appreciate it. The System builder has great diagrams, I just need to know the proper procedure to get the HMC to see the new memory so I can allocate it to the partitions.

Thanks
