Can't think of any reason. Since many of our files still use the S/36 group naming convention, I have a library for compiles that is simply CRTDUPOBJ's of those files without the group identifier. I've never had a problem later running the program against the real (A.whatever) file.
My considered conclusion is that something, unbeknownst to you, has changed in the file since the program was compiled. Or it may have picked up another file of the same name (but different attributes) during the compile, which would be a library list issue.
