Does anyone know how I can accomplish the above? Using the physical files doesn't get me
the format I need.

I am wondering how Excel will support this? From an analysis point of
view Excel doesn't really like to have differing data types/formats in
the same column.

Multi-format logicals are difficult to deal with; they are primarily
intended for program access rather than "human" access. If you have
the knowledge, a good solution is to create program to "rationalize"
the data into a single format PF and then download that. An
alternative is to use multiple queries (one for each source PF) to
build a single format file for downloading.
