A number of years ago the president of a large credit union said to me
that for the first time in 20 years he actually enjoyed coming to work,
because he had all the information and applications he needed to do his
job, at his fingertips. That was after we installed a new system which
was fully integrated.
The biggest frustration I see in IT and user communities now is with
using and managing disparate technogies; Multiple operating sytems,
hardware options, vendors, user interface options, computer programming
languages, and various de-facto standards - leading to numerous failure
points, and work-arounds in an attempt to integrate the technology, a
good share of which is a result of our use of distributed architecture
driven mostly by Intel and Microsoft.
