It seems that this is the 'ole one bad apple' thing......This list is going downhill fast.  What started as a source of sound advice has become little more than a place to 'show how good you are (or think you are)' or to make others feel foolish.

I hope that you are happy with yourselves.  You should be ashamed.

Warmest Regards,

Richard Reeve

One of the things you guys seem to forget is that new people join this list all the time and we often do not know where to look for things in the archives - I, for one, am extremely grateful when people who have been around for a while take the time to point me in a direction I was unaware of.

I was wondering where you'd got to, Joe!

And thanks Dave, I got my problem resolved. Simon indirectly directed me to your post "REXX CL on steroids".

This is a perfect example
of what irritates me about so many of the questions on this list.

And THIS is what I find most irritating about this list.  The lack of civility is simply unconscionable.  Although at least it's limited to a very, very small number of nitwits.

Better that
someone is directed where to find the resolution so THEY have to do
some work to solve it.
See, this is the problem.  This part is true.  In fact, much of what you say is true, Simon.  It's not the "what", it's the "how".

Then there is at least some minor hope they might LEARN from the
experience instead of simply resolve, move on, and forget.
But this is pointless - the sarcastic "minor hope" bilge in particular.
Condescension, pure and simple.

A similar effect is found by pointing out the stupidity of certain
questions.
And this is out and out bullshit.  As I've said before, there is absolutely no excuse for calling a question or by implication a questioner stupid.  If you feel it necessary to point out that the question has been asked and answered, then do so.  But please refrain from telling us how stupid people are, no matter how necessary it is to your own self-image.

It sticks in the mind (of most people) even if it also sticks in
their craw. That's LEARNING!

I get the idea that you were brought up in a home where you were beaten if you wet your pants.  THAT'S L:EARNING!

Don't try passing off your boorish behavior as a training method.
You're simply a brat, Simon.
