I'm sending this to MIDRANGE-L since it's not related to RPG.

Thomas,

I'm trying to start the Adobe Acrobat Reader, and have it open a specific
pdf file stored in an IFS directory, but I keep getting the same results.
It waits about 1 minute before doing anything and then returns CPE3425 (A
remote host refused an attempted connect operation).

Most of the time (90%) this means that the iSeries Access Remote Commmand service is not running on the PC.

The remainder of the time, it's a firewall issue. (Either a network firewall, or a personal firewall, like Windows firewall, on the PC)

<soap box>
IMHO, IBM did a poor job with this message description. CPE3425 is what's known as "ECONNREFUSED" it means "connection refused". So IBM described it as "A remote host refused an attempted connect operation" (which doesn't provide any more description than "connection refused").

What it means is that there's no software running on that computer that's willing to accept your connection. Most of the time, that means that the software you're connecting to (in this example, the iSeries Access Remote Command service) hasn't been started -- therefore, there's no software listening on that port... therefore, there's no software willing to accept a connection. So you could describe this message as "The software on the remote host hasn't been started" and that would be a WHOLE LOT easier to understand.

But, of course, it's possible for the software to be running, but only willing to accept connections on a different network interface, or a different port.
</soap box>

BUT ANYWAY... Go start the service on the PC.
