There are several manuals you should have a hard copy
version of in my opinion.

(1) Basic Operations http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/index.jsp?topic=/rzal2/rzal2kickoff.htm
(2) Backup and Recovery Guide SC41-5304-08
(3) Basic Security Guide SC41-5302-09

Since a good many of the manuals are rolled into the
Info Center, you have to download the PDF version.

They can all still be ordered from the pubs center.

I have a hard copy of those and several others.
I also keep the PDF version of all on the pc I use most.
I also keep the complete set of PDF versions on a USB memory
stick.

These folks are VERY experienced systems people and they
have several books on the subject.

There are many good books on administration at this site.

Take a peek at this one.

The side note at the bottom still applies though -
where can I find a solid sys admin book?
