Awhile back, in a former life, we had just installed our first UPS to
support our B50. I believe it was a BEST Power System. It was the size of
a small refrigerator and inside was approximately 30 batteries, each about
the size of an average car battery. One morning the company president
stopped by to check out the new UPS hardware. After a few minutes the
discussion turned to other MIS issues at which time the company president
leaned up against the front of the UPS to participate in the conversation.
This went on for about 10-15 minutes.

Later that day, after the company president went to lunch he found out
that his credit card didn't work. A couple of days later we discovered
that all of the cards in his wallet containing magnetic stripes had been
wiped clean in the short time he spent leaning on the UPS.

I guess our first clue should have been the 5250 terminal (system console)
sitting on top of the UPS and the way its screen flickered and shimmied
due to the magnetic field coming from the UPS.

Regards, Jerry
