Bruce,

You should be able to do this quite easily. I have been playing around
with PJL and SNMP Printing for IPDS printing within the last month.

This link demonstrates that the Lexmark can do both.

You end up using Host Print Transform (HPT) on the I to convert it to
ascii before it is sent to the printer. It works rather well. I just
converted several Xerox Document centers to do this.

It reduces the need for cards or intermediate software. (my
requirement). It will increase your network traffic. Since a small
IPDS print stream of 45 k can be greatly morphed into a 1.5m ASCII print
stream. As to how big a hit, that's determined by the overlays.

Subject: Lexmark 642TN

Anyone using the Lexmark 642TN to print SCS and/or IPDS? If so then how
is it working for you. HP has discontinued the HP4250 and they
recommended the HP4015TN. I have been fighting with trying to get it to
print SCS and IPDS for about a month and a half. I just got off the
phone with IO Corporation about their USB IPDS Card and the tech was
telling me that the HP4015TN (The replacement for the HP4250) will not
print SCS. He said that IO had outsourced the HP4015TN and that it no
longer supported SCS or IPDS. Here is what HP recommends to solved my
problem. This is what our guy at Zones sent me.

"HP went out and found this partner to work with (MiNet) and I am
assured this solution will also work. I have listed the options below
and there are a couple of PDF's attached. "

IAPS 200 - 4 Session Appliance List Price $4475.00

They want me to buy an appliance session license for each of my 200+
Printers. So what I see it the spool file would be generated on the
iSeries and sent to the Appliance, Converted from SCS or IPDS and sent
to the printer.

I would also have to keep the appliance up to date with any ip changes
and other crap.

This is crazy.
