Can you lay out in EGL what you would expect other languages to accomplish

That is the EGL. All of it. Runtime is an EGL supplied class. invokeREST is a system function. HTML is also an EGL class, with the functions getDOMElement and getElementsByTagName.

What you're looking at is the EGL code in its entirety.

Let's see the same for the RPG.
