I *Imagine* (as in, do not know, but assume) that VIOS does not have
appropriate drivers to communicate with SATA Drives with the SAS
Controller that's used in the blade. Or the firmware of the SAS
Controller does not support it (which seems highly unlikely, as the
same is used in the Intel Blades).

Interestingly, the CFF Controller on the Intel Blades required a
Firmware upgrade to enable SATA Communications - but there is none
available for VIOS.

Or it's just a marketing thing. Maybe a little bit of both.
