The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.

VPN securely connect networks over an insecure medium. It allows
networking in both directions, and is transparent to the application.
You can do anything over a VPN - including for example direct IPDS
printing to a customers printer.
SSL needs to be explicitly embedded into an applications network code.
SSL securely connects a server and a client over an insecure medium.
It does not allow any other network connection take place securely. It
needs explicit application support. Only SSL-enabled applications can
use SSL.
(There are SSL Wrappers that allow non-SSL aware Applications to use SSL)
They're different technologies for different goals. If you do not need
direct network connectivity, and your application supports SSL, SSL
will be the easier (albeit less flexible way) of establishing
communications.
