Using Scott Klement's excellent and clear guide to using LDAP and the
one API for doing this specifically, I tried to implement this a year or
two back.

I wrote a guide to using LDAP?! When did I do that?

I suppose you could use LDAP to verify an address against a particular company directory, or something like that, but it wouldn't work as a general "how to verify an address" type of thing.
