RES: verify an email address

All,

Take care as this webservice returns false for my mail address

As it's blacklisted on some RBLs my mail server blocks it, see logs below
[modified to prevent identities]:

13:54:19.67 1 SMTPI-63870([webservice]) Recipient [myself@mydomain]
rejected: your host [IP] is blacklisted by [RBL]. Send your questions to
[blacklist-admin@mydomain]

You could use a copy of one of Scott Klement's HHTPAPI examples and have it
access a Web service that would verify the address that you will pass as a
parm. I did.
The Web service is:

is there a way to check that an email address is valid from the

midrange side?

Short answer, no. You can't rely on bounces (and if you could, they
could take a while), you can't rely on VRFY or EXPN as they're blocked
in most places, and even RCPT TO isn't guaranteed to tell you if the
address is valid since a relay may accept the mail message and then
later bounce it.

Depending on the need you could send an email to the address asking
the recipient to take an action (click a link in the email). Then you
know not only that the address exists, but that it belongs to the

recipient.
