Excuse my ignorance here but in my CL, do I just enter this command as
is on
the line or do I use a sbmjob and submit the command. Also, I don't have
the
rtvdirinf or prtdirinf commands

CHGJOB DFTWAIT(30)
or
WRKCLS
Determining the class is a minor lesson in Work Management.
DSPSBSD QBATCH
7. Routing entries
5=Display details
on
Seq Nbr Program Library Compare Value
9999 QCMD QSYS *ANY
And you should see:
Class . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . :
Library . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . :
Want to create a funky class just for your backups? No problem
WRKOBJ QBATCH* *CLS
3 to copy it to QBATCHBACK
WRKCLS QBATCH*
Change the default wait time.
ADDRTGE SBSD(QBATCH) SEQNBR(6969) CMPVAL('BACKUP') PGM(QCMD)
CLS(QBATCHBAC
K) POOLID(2)
CHGJOBD MYBACKUP RTGDTA('BACKUP')
The short term easiest is to add the CHGJOB to your CL program doing the
backup. The other allows you to tink with it without recompiling. You
may find yourself:
- Changing other options in the job description used for your backup,
like
logging level, etc
- Modifying the timeslices, or run priorities in your new class
description.

Actually, where would I find that setting? We are at 5.2. Is that on the
SAV
command?

The additional 200 objects are very small and probably about the same
size
as most of the 400,000 objects. I haven't checked the joblog for the
default
wait time but I can say that no one was on the system at the time we
were
running it. Is there an optimal setting for the default wait time?

400,000 one hundred byte objects may take less time than 200 one
terabyte
objects.
Also, you might want to check the joblog and the settings for Default
Wait
Time. Waiting two minutes an object to see if someone frees up a lock
tends to drag out the time.

IFS save issue
Thanks in advance for any advice. Each night we back up one directory in
the
IFS which contains about 400,000 objects. It takes about 45 minutes to
the
second every night using a 3581 L23 drive. 2 nights ago, I decided to
start
backing up 2 other much smaller NON-IBM directories (about 200 objects
total). I expected the backup to run maybe a few additional minutes but
lo
and behold, it went from 45 minutes to about 5 hours. I'm going back to
my
original backup tonight but has anyone seen this before? In addition,
can
anyone tell me which part of the IFS is backed up with a complete system
save?
