SE = System Engineer that assisted with software issues and aided the account
in system upgrades, version release updates, and just general help. Often
instructed programmers and system folks in new "features" of OS.
In very early days, also helped in system design of user software.
Good SE's were worth their weight in gold.

CE= Customer Engineer that handled all hardware issues and did the hardware
upgrades prior to the new D.I.Y. goat rodeo.

FE= Field Engineer is different term for CE.

Many on this list are not aware of or have never heard of an "SE".
This was/is one of IBM's larger blunders.

I recall a weekly or monthly call/visit from my SE when
I was a customer.

(1) How are you doing ?
(2) What are you doing ?
(3) What would you like to do ?
(4) Can we help ?

While I agree that IBM have a tendency to do this (they apparently
haven't noticed that they got rid of all the SEs who used to spread
this knowledge) there was quite a lot of fuss about Rexx when it was
first launched.
