I inherited a program/display file that needs modification. There is a weird

At the record level, there is the conditioned keyword PUTOVR.

At the field level, there is a conditioned DSPATR (HI RI PC).

The same indicator used for PUTOVR and DSPATR is also used to condition an
ERRMSG.

The error message is displayed, but the field that it perains to is unchanged.

I presume by "unchanged" you mean the attribute associated with the field is not in effect? That is the field is not HIghlighted and ReverseImaged and the cursor is not placed in that field.

Is there another keyword that needs to be included to cause the effected field
to be displayed with the appropriateattribute changes?

Yes. PUTOVR works in conjunction with OVRATR and OVRDTA. You answer is in the Information Centre:

"The following conditions cause the Put-Override keywords to be ignored and no error to occur:
PUTOVR is not in effect at the time of the output operation.
Neither the OVRDTA nor OVRATR keyword is in effect at the time of the output operation.
The record format is not already on the display."

Also, if I need the DSPATR to be conditioned by two indicators connected by OR,
on which of the two lines is the DSPATR keyword used on?

The last line.

Simon Coulter.
