Adopted authority doesn't apply to IFS objects.

Could still be authority, but not caused by the fact the program that
created them ran under adopted
authority.

I assume you've checked the authority?

Assuming authority is ok, the only thing I can think of is a bug in the
program that created the file
which cause invalid and unprintable characters to be part of the name.

Try using
mget *

If you can get the files, then there's unprintable characters in the name.

before.
But now, for some reason, FTP isn't finding the files (even though

and a DIR via the FTP client shows them there:
