I don't know about Telnet - are you saying people opening up Port 23 on your System i to a public IP address? Then yeah, you got issues! Your point about FTP is definitely a good one, though. Me, I don't allow FTP to my System i from anything but specific local addresses and users, and even then I don't have FTP enabled by default, I think it's foolhardy. But there are lots of people using fully automated processes based on FTP; I agree that those things need more security.

Heck, people go through all the work of creating a user ID and password, and then they put those things in clear text in an FTP script! But you're right, anybody doing that sort of work needs the help of a security consultant. And you'd need that if you were doing it via your PC as well; it's the nature of FTP not the System i.
