If you're using PCA, make sure you test it out before crunch time...we've
had some problems with video refresh not happening...which makes dialing in
during a dedicated systems maintenance window and having to go blind on some
of the options really a stressful night...client was too cheap to upgrade
the PC with more memory, processor or both...

The only choices, if you want remote access, are:
- Operations Console with PC Anywhere or some such thing
- HMC
- Twinax card in a PC with PC Anywhere or some such thing.

If you are planning on doing Capacity Upgrade on Demand, or more than one
lpar of i5/OS, you will need HMC.

If you want access to front panel operations, then I think you are limited
to HMC. Twinax card is out. Operations Console "may" (I am not sure) no
longer have this capability.

When you consider the cost of a twinax card for your i5, a twinax card for
your PC, a product like PC Anywhere, and, the loss of a slot on your new
i5 to support the twinax card the cost of a HMC starts looking better.

console options for a 515 or 525

We are getting quotes for systems with either a 5552 (sys console - thin
console) or 5553 (sys console - Ethernet) cards.

Our old boxes had twinax consoles and we use a Visara (diskless linux
device) that serves the console session over the network. The Visara
client software (and emulation protocol) are proprietary but it's
acceptable for what it is.

What are the remote (TCP/IP) console options for a 515 or 525 ?
An HMC would probably work, but it's likely the most expensive option.
Our IBM partner is suggesting another twinax card. Are these really the
only choices ?
