I think you may have to use SQL.
select length(trim(fieldname)) from library/file
There is no trim function in Query400 that I know of.

Is it possible to get the length of the content of a field withing
Query/400?
Field length is 255. I am attempting to organize the fields by the
length of the none blank portion. Thus ABLE length of 4, BAKER length
of 5.
I have tried using the length keyword to build a new field. That just
returns 255. Not helpful. Tried wrapping VARCHAR around the field
withing the length function. Same result.
Guess I could use SQL.....
