I have dozens of files that I import straight into the database on the
i5 with CPYFRMIMPF that use other delimiters, mostly the pipe(|) symbol,
with no quotes around the text.

Did I misunderstand your statement?

What format is the data in the text file? CPYFRMIMPF will

library and special import files that are the same layout as
the text files. I can then copy to the real database
mapping the fields over to the production file. I like to
use RPG to validate the data as well.
