Your reply to Anne hits the head on the nail...lots of nebulous talk but
nothing hard quantitative...
Here's what I'd like to see, for starters - and data presented on a
quarterly basis(where available), from 1998 to current:
1. Number of current business partners SPECIALIZING in (i5).
2. Number of (i5) systems currently under maintenance (not a perfect stat
but a very good tend indicator) (Yes, I'm aware of LPAR consolidation -
footnote high consolidated numbers if you have them)
3. Number of tools venders SPECIALIZING in (i5).
4. Number of help wanted ads for (i5) specific positions.
5. Number of PAID REAL attendees at COMMON (not the "COMMON math" numbers
we get fed), and the number of REAL PAID attendees at the IBM (i5) tech
conferences.
6. Number of NEW systems sold per qtr - this is NEW systems for either
expansion or new client/applications - NOT BP tricks to punch out a new
serial number which is in effect an upgrade just to make IBM happy...
7. Number of universities/colleges/community colleges ACTIVELY TEACHING (i5)
classes. I MEAN ACTIVELY TEACHING - NOT just on the books or in the
catalog...and I mean active in that the class weren't canceled due to lack
of people signing up for them...
8. Total number of classes per qtr taught of the answer to Number 7.
9. Number of ACTIVE Local User Groups (yes, I know Europe is handled
differently, but presume that each country or (as in the case of France)
each country's chapters count as a group...(so France would have more than
one).
Booth, I think these stats will go a LONG WAY to answering some of your and
a lot of the rest of us's questions....but I'm not holding my breath to see
the numbers posted... :)
Anne, the pom-pom's in your court... :)
