Now you make the Microsoft comparison invalid, it seems - and you give up too soon. I too have to install our software, fortunately it almost all installs with uploads. But they will take media and install it - or maybe let you get on and do it.

Too many assumptions = an a priori decision that IBM won't help you? Your loss, my friend.

Don't give up too soon, my experience is that the folks Michael speaks of below are very helpful.

Those might be nice for a developer to verify that their software
works. As such, it's great that IBM offers them.

However, my Job is to actually install these updates. So i'll have to
test that as well. Also, testing if our productive environment will
"survive" the upgrade is also necessary, and i doubt that i can just
send IBM an LTO tape with all our company data on it, and restore that
to some testing machine (both legally and technically).
