Well, either i misunderstood something, or you're mixing things up.

I'm trying to clarify the situation - don't get this the wrong way :)

Netserver is a SMB/CIFS Server. It is configured through iSeries Navigator.

Windows has a native SMB/CIFS Client (which is commonly known as
"Windows Filesharing"). There is absolutely no need for iSeries Access
when trying to access SMB/CIFS shares from a Windows Client (which is
exactly what Netserver Publishes). This is what the OP intend to use,
as the method below does not work on Vista anyway. Fixing
Netserver/Vista issues required OS/400/i5/OS PTFs.

Many, many years ago, when TCP/IP Networking wasn't common and i
wasn't born, there were other methods to access files from Windows on
a System i. This method utilised the "File Server" host server on the
System i, and was used with Twinax or other weird ways of networking.
This method required the then-called Client Access on the Client. It
also involves a weird software called NS/Router.
