Thanks for the reply. They system automatically created the device
description. The funny thing is if I look DSPHDWRSC it shows that the
drive before it broke belonged to a TAP05 resource that is contained
under a resource call TAPMLB04. Looking at the DSPHDWRSC screen I see
that the old drive was showing up as a 3490-F01, but the new drive is
showing up as a 3490-F11.

Hmm, that's an oldie, but a goodie. Based on the IBM Reference#
8625688700566393, it should work. Did you create a new device
description, or just use the old one?

I had my 3490E drive die on me the other day. The replacement is not
working quite right though. I have changed the setting on the drive
so
that it's using the 3490E Model F configuration. When I initialize a
tape it will only initialize to *FMT3480, I cannot get it to
initialize
to *FMT3490E. You could use either format on the old drive.
What am I missing here.
