Good QA practices are not old dinosaur stuff... indeed, have you looked in the recent practices about test-driven development and agile development and testing? I am impressed. I confess that I don't use them (yet) in my shop, but it actually goes beyond the typical approach (making somebody test your stuff by playing with it in a safe testing environment).
