My take on this is:

We are not in the business of pitching hardware or OS upgrades to people who already have AS/400s. We are in the business of selling application and utility software. And if some end-user on an older box is able to use one of our products, where another vendor's would require an upgrade the end-user couldn't afford, then our decision to support hardware and OS releases further back than anybody else is completely justified.
