Agreed - much better and worth the upgrade concerns (not as bad as it
sounds/reads). I finally felt that the interface was easy enough to
understand that I could train some people on it.

Denis,
Once you get used to it, you're going to like HMC 7. I especially like
how easy the full remote support is. No remote client - just browser.
Prior to that, I never bothered and only used the 5250 remote.
I was so far behind I had to upgrade HMC, FSP, then HMC again. However
one look at HMC 7 and I had to have it.

Rép. : 520 "Upgrade path"
We are about to upgrade our 520 to a 525. We have 3 partition, the new
machine will have 4. We keep the same serial number.
2 of the partition will be an unload/reload. The third will just be a
disk move. All will need to be upgraded to V5R4 before (we will get them
to V5R4M5). But we also need to upgrade the HMC to version 7 before. But
to do so, we must upgrade the FSP also which require us to restart the
machine and all the lpar.
After that, there is no current upgrade path for this machine.

Good morning all,
In the past, we've upgraded our AS/400 (iSeries) systems every three
years due to both performance and financial incentives and also the
expiration of upgrade paths. Presently, we have a 520 that's about 3
years old which doesn't have any performance problems and for which IBM
hasn't yet to show an upgrade path. Management would like me to give
them something they can put on their radar with respect to budgeting and
planning an upgrade.
Any thoughts on what I can tell them? We're on a 9406 running V5R3.
Thanks in advance,
Bryan Burns
