Ask your hardware tech support.
You want to avoid having to have it re-certified.

We have moved our corporate offices a few times.

The first time was with the old S/36. Remember that? Like several refrigerators laying on their side. We had added hardware over time ... like additional kitchen appliances appended. It was too big to move out through the door frame.

Some disassembly was neccessary. Personally, I think dissassembling the wall around the door frame would have been less hassle.

One time was across a picket line.

At the time we were on IBM hardware support & IBM said it had to be moved on a vehicle certified by IBM to move IBM equipment. They got us a list of trucker companies with IBM certification. None of them would cross the picket line.

So IBM agreed to let us move it ourselves. IBMers packed it up onto a skid. Our fork lift truck walked it through the building to our truck, then our truck drove it to other site, with process in reverse.

When IBM re-assembled it, they had a problem with drive # 1 which happens to have the security stuff that lets them access other stuff to run diagnostics. So they could not run the diagnostics to find out why they could not get drive # 1 re-attached.

For various reasons, we are relocating an 810 from one office to another
this coming weekend (about 100 feet total, same floor), and some
questions have come up.

Essentially, we have two options, pick the beast up and place it on a
cart, then reverse the process at the destination office. The second
option is to strap it to an appliance dolly.

The question that has come up is if it is safe to tip the machine (as is
necessary with the dolly)? The concern is that it could unseat cards,
etc. Personally I think it would be much safer than lilfting the box,
but figured I'd ask anyways.

So, anyone see a problem with either method or have any tales of woe to
share we should be aware of in advance?
