Jon,

 I agree about the price - that would be a deal killer.  If you're 
looking to do something in this area, it would probably depend on the 
size of the group.  A smaller group might allow you to go off the 
beaten path and find something considerably cheaper.

 A conference the size of Common would present a larger challenge.
