Quick question - can I run an SQL statement within a CL program? What's
the command?

As mentioned you can use RUNSQLSTM which requires that the statement
is already set up in a source member. An alternative is to compile
that statement in the source member into a *QMQRY object that you can
run via STRQMQRY in a CLP - it gives you more options for output
(*OUTFILE or *PRINT).

I wrote a wrapper round a generic QMQRY that lets you run ad-hoc SQL
from within your CL - see
