RVI stores it's documents on the iSeries. It has indexes (in the new
version up to 99) that you get to set up so they index over information
that is important to you.

It works with a scanner, so you can scan documents, and it also works over
spooled documents.

For example, we have orders come in and we scan the order documents into
the imaging system. We also have shipping documents that are generated on
the iSeries and saved in spool files. These spool files are then saved in
the imaging system.

When customer support calls up the imaging system by say the sales person,
they can see the customer's order documents as well as the shipping
documents all from the same screen.

I'm not sure about keeping them in month to date, year to date files. The
documents are stored in the ifs on the iSeries and the "folder names" are
the date the images were scanned/spooled into the imaging system. After so
long (we've not reached that time yet), you could transfer these folders
off the iSeries onto historical media.

I'm sorry... I should have at least attempted to explain what I was
looking for.

The customer wants to scan documents(invoices, bills, etc) and keep
them in month to date, year to date, inception date files.(outside sources)

They would would also like to archive printed reports on the Iseries.

They would want to access them by a few indexes, like name, agent
number, vendor, etc.

I guess the best description is a giant archive system.

I assume you could do this with a scan to PDF's but I have no
idea of how you might build the index over a bunch of PDF
files stored in the IFS.

There are so many out there. Vanguard IMS/21 is what we use but I have
a few issues with their software. We use Quadrant Fastfax for faxing
and I understand they also offer a full document management system.
