You bring up a good point - the cost of HR systems. Even on the System i
I think they are getting very expensive. We'll probably be replacing ours
as the vendor is getting out of the software business (and becoming more
of a service bureau). We're looking at other options, like ADP.
Frankly one of the reasons I think they are so high priced is that they
are not interested in making new sales - just milking the maintenance cash
cow of "x% of list". When you haggle software prices you can often get a
discount on the list (heck, some will give it to you on a trade) but just
try haggling on the maintenance. Not going to happen.
Now, you add up the cost of new software, the annual maintenance cost, the
cost of personnel in your company to handle it, and services like ADP
start to look real good.
