Sounds good. I'm guessing the tapes simple aren't compatible then. Oh
well, it was worth a shot.

The cleaning cartridge will pop back out when the drive decides
it is clean.
Now, do WRKCFGSTS *DEV TAP* and press enter. You may have caused it to
fail. Vary it off and back on. You may also want to cycle the power on the
tape drive first. Did you buy the compatible cartridges? If what
you got is
not a compatible cartridge, they won't work no how, no way.

Subject: Tape Drive Questions
On my new 515 I have a 4mm 36G drive model 9258.
I got some 4GB tapes from someone on the list, but they won't take.
I insert the tape, it goes in, and spits it back out and the middle light
blinks. I think it's the cleaning light. Brand new machine, needs a
cleaning?
So, I did get a cleaning cartrige. Do you just stick it in and let it
clean? IBM's infocenter hasn't been much help with this. Not even a
mention of a 4mm drive, just 1/4" and 8mm. I did try that but it spit it
back out after about 15 seconds and got a message in QSYSOPR:
*Attention* Tape device or tape library *N failed
Not sure it that was from the cleaning tape.
Thanks for any and all information.
