What I do is square the value & sort on that.
-1000 x -1000 is a positive #
I make the width of that sort field 0 for printing

similar principle other programming languages.
a value can be tested for if it is less than zero, then Z-SUB to get sign reversal

I am on V5R1 due to BPCS feature code "upgrade is road to bankrupsy"
However, even though our BPCS does not use SQL
I use embedded SQL heavily in modifications

Is it possible to get new field "absolute amount" in QUERY/400 for any other
numeric fields? (WRKQRY)

I'mean 1000 for field=-1000 and also 1000 for field=1000
